How the overall band is worked out
Your overall band is the average of your four section bands (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking), rounded to the nearest whole or half band: an average ending in .25 rounds up to the next half band, and an average ending in .75 rounds up to the next whole band. So Listening 7.0, Reading 7.0, Writing 6.5 and Speaking 7.0 average to 6.875, which rounds up to 7.0, while Listening 7.0, Reading 6.5, Writing 6.0 and Speaking 7.0 average to 6.625, which rounds down to 6.5. Writing and Speaking have no raw score to convert here, because they are marked directly against the criteria rather than counted out of 40; use the free checkers below to see a real band for either.

Add your four section bands (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking), divide by four, then round to the nearest 0.5, rounding a score ending in .25 up to the next half band and a score ending in .75 up to the next whole band.
Are these conversion tables official?
They are widely published approximations of the real conversion, which varies slightly between test versions because each version is calibrated separately. Use them to estimate your band, not to predict it to the decimal.
